I would guess that in the empire of their private thoughts, the ones they dont share with anyone out of social fear, many swpls are simply clinging to the safety of the herd, afraid of social exclusion, and know full well how empty and fruitless the majority of their gestures are. Any of them who are numerate know that shopping at Whole Foods isn’t going to save anything, and that their patronage of many musical/comedic acts is out of confomity to their herds instead of truly enjoying the fare.
